FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Where do we walk?
We use two beautiful local areas: the Wye Valley (riversides, woods, rolling farmland) and the Black Mountains (Sugarloaf, Skirrid, Hay Bluff, Cat’s Back). The Wye Valley offers a gentle, reflective environment; the Black Mountains provide expansive wilderness for big picture thinking.
How fit do I need to be?
Walks can be tailored to suit most fitness levels. Options include Easy (mostly flat footpaths), Moderate (undulating hills) and Challenging (steeper terrain). We walk at a comfortable pace and take regular breaks.
What clothing and equipment do I need?
You’ll need sturdy hiking boots, suitable outdoor clothing, a waterproof jacket, a small rucksack, water, snacks and a flask. Full details are provided during the pre-walk briefing.
What about bad weather?
Walks can take place in most conditions with the right clothing, but we avoid heavy rain, high winds and wintry weather. We confirm go ahead 48 hours in advance.
What qualifications do you have?
I hold an MBA and a PhD in Business Strategy, with over 30 years’ practical experience. I am also a qualified Hill and Moorland Leader (UK Mountain Training Association) and trained in outdoor first aid.
What strategy tools do you use?
The Path Ahead approach uses unique templates to help explore a) where you are now; b) where you need to be; and c) how to get there. I use a suite of other tools to help map the context, brainstorm major opportunities, clarify guidelines and formulate plans. These provide structure and insight whilst remaining accessible and intuitive.
Are you insured?
Yes – covering both Business Mentoring and Guided Walking.

What is business mentoring?
Business mentoring is a structured, long‑term relationship where an experienced business professional supports an individual business leader (or a senior team) in their strategic thinking, decision‑making and personal development. It blends guidance, challenge and external perspective to help individuals gain clarity, avoid pitfalls and move their business forward with confidence.
Why outside?
Walking in nature changes the way we think. Fresh air, movement and expansive landscapes naturally relax the mind and create space for deeper reflection. The outdoors setting is perfect for getting away from everyday worries, developing new ideas and clarifying the way ahead. To misquote the naturalist John Muir, I’d rather be in the hills thinking about strategy, than in a meeting room thinking about the hills!
When and how do I pay?
Payment is required at point of booking and is by bank transfer.
What are the cancellation terms?
Full refunds on cancellations more than 7 days before the booked date, 50% refund up to 48 hours before and 0% refund within 48 hours. Or let's postpone to the next convenient date if this is possible.
